At Luke’s Place, we know our work supporting women subjected to intimate partner violence through family law is made possible by the generosity, skill, and dedication of our volunteers. This year, we are proud to announce that five extraordinary members of our Luke’s Place community have been recognized with the 2025 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism for their consecutive years of service.

The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards honour individuals committed to volunteerism in their communities. Each of our honourees has contributed countless hours, expertise, and heart to advancing safety, empowerment, and justice for women navigating the legal system.

Meet our 2025 Honourees:

Stephanie Ostrom – 5 years of service

As a pro bono lawyer with Luke’s Place, Stephanie has dedicated her time and legal expertise to supporting women navigating the complex family law system. Her guidance helps survivors feel better informed, empowered, and prepared to advocate for themselves.

Melissa Berardi – 5 years of service

Another exceptional pro bono lawyer with Luke’s Place, Melissa’s commitment ensures that more women can access high-quality legal advice when they need it most. Her compassion and professionalism have made a lasting difference to many lives.

Maggie Byrne – 10 years of service

For a decade, Maggie has been a steadfast presence at Luke’s Place, volunteering her time accompanying women to court and assisting with our Family Law Information Workshops. Her dedication reflects her belief in creating a safer future for women and children.

Aparna Dixit – 5 years of service

As a Luke’s Place Board Director, and more recently as the Past President of the Board, Aparna brought visionary leadership and a deep commitment to our mission. Her volunteer service has helped shape Luke’s Place into the strong organization it is today.

Donna Babbs – 20 years of service

Our current Board President was a core visionary and partner in the initial development of Luke’s Place, a founding member of the Legal Advisory Group, a co-creator of the first funding proposal to the Law Foundation of Ontario, and a volunteer lawyer in the pro bono summary advice clinic.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Stephanie, Melissa, Maggie, Aparna, and Donna. Your commitment has strengthened our capacity to serve women subjected to intimate partner violence.
