National Volunteer Week 2026: Ignite Volunteerism
National Volunteer week, taking place April 19-25, is a time to recognize and celebrate the people who strengthen our communities through their time, skills, and compassion.
This year’s theme, “Ignite Volunteerism” highlights the power of individual and collective action, and the ways volunteers spark meaningful change in the communities around them.
At Luke’s Place, we see that impact every day.
Our volunteers play a vital role in advancing a more just and supportive legal system for women and children who have been subjected to intimate partner violence (IPV). Through their dedication, knowledge, and care, they help ensure that more women can access the legal information, support, and advocacy they need during some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we are proud to recognize the many ways our volunteers “ignite” change, strengthening our programs, supporting survivors, and contributing to broader systems of change across Ontario.
Volunteers at the heart of our work
Board of Directors
Luke’s Place is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors that provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance in support of our mission. Board members bring diverse expertise and a shared commitment to improving the family law system for women and children. Their leadership helps ensure our work remains responsive, impactful, and grounded in our values.
Ontario Family Law Lawyers
We are grateful to the family law lawyers across Ontario who contribute their time and expertise in support of our work. They provide free summary legal advice through our pro bono legal clinic, deliver public legal education in our virtual legal information sessions, and contribute to resource development. Through these efforts, they help increase access to critical legal information. Their insights also inform our law reform and advocacy efforts, strengthening systemic responses to intimate partner violence.
Legal Support Volunteers
Our Legal Support Volunteers play a vital role in directly supporting women navigating the family court system. They provide one-on-one assistance during court proceedings and lawyer appointments, helping to reduce confusion and stress during what can be an overwhelming process. They also support group sessions and workshops, creating a more accessible and supportive environment for the women we support.
Students
Each year, social work and law students join Luke’s Place through placements, gaining hands-on experience in a specialized and impactful area of work. Students contribute to service delivery, legal information support, and research initiatives, while developing skills and knowledge that will shape their future careers. Their energy and commitment are an important part of our team.
