Criminal Injuries Compensation Board closes: Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP) starts October 1

Anyone wishing to make a claim for compensation under the CICB must submit their application by September 30th. After this date, some claims can be made to the Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP+).

Today The Law Foundation of Ontario announced that Pamela Cross, the Luke’s Place Legal Director, is their 2019 Guthrie Award recipient! Congratulations, Pam!
The Guthrie Award celebrates “exceptional access to justice champions”. Pamela is recognized for her “tremendous contributions to Canadian women’s legal rights”.

Ontario Family Court Review: Luke’s Place submission

A review of Ontario’s family and civil legislation, regulations, and processes by the Ministry of the Attorney General is underway. Submissions will be accepted until July 31, 2019.
The review is looking at three key issues:

direct family law matters out of a combative court process, where possible;
reduce the cost of the process to families and taxpayers;

Changes to the Divorce Act: What it can mean for women

In the final dash to get legislation passed before Parliament recessed for the summer, only to head straight into an election campaign in the fall, some important bills managed to make it to Royal Assent.
Any bills that did not pass Third Reading in the Senate and obtain Royal Assent by last Friday are now dead.
