Celebrating Pride Month
Pride is about visibility, dignity, and safety for everyone.
At Luke’s Place, we recognize that 2SLGBTQ+ survivors of intimate partner violence often face unique and layered barriers when navigating the family law system. These can include discrimination, misidentification or lack of recognition within legal processes, and systems that too often assume a narrow view of family.
We also know that access to justice is not equal, and that safety planning, parenting arrangements, and court processes can feel even more complex when identity is not fully understood or respected.
That’s why our work includes survivor-centred resources and training designed to support advocates, legal professionals, and service providers in responding more effectively to diverse experiences of abuse and family violence.
This includes tools such as:
- Our Family Court and Beyond workbook and resource materials, which help survivors prepare for and navigate family court processes
- Our legal information resources on decision-making responsibility and parenting time, written to reflect current Ontario family law language
- Our training for advocates and professionals, which strengthens understanding of intimate partner violence dynamics and how they intersect with the legal system
- Our online resources for women and service providers, designed to increase safety, clarity, and confidence in family law navigation
This Pride Month, we stand with 2SLGBTQ+ communities and remain committed to strengthening a family law system—and supports around it—that reflects the realities of all survivors.
Because safety, recognition, and access to justice should never depend on who you are or who you love.
