Second Annual Community Walk to End IPV: A Call to End the Epidemic of Intimate Partner Violence

Together, we walked and continued to stand against intimate partner violence (IPV).
On November 1, 2025, over 400 community members came together for the Second Annual Community Walk to End Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and what an inspiring morning it was.
From the moment participants began gathering at Durham Region Headquarters, the energy was undeniable. Waves of purple filled the space as walkers, survivors, advocates, and families stood shoulder to shoulder in a show of solidarity.
Together, we walked to honour survivors, remember those lost, and call for a future free from violence.
This year’s walk was more than a community event; it was part of a growing movement across Ontario to confront intimate partner violence as the serious and sustained issue it continues to be. More than 100 municipalities have already declared it an epidemic, and we commend the Ontario government for officially recognizing intimate partner violence as an “endemic” on November 6, 2025.
Our campaign, Intimate Partner Violence is an Epidemic: A Call to Action, reminds us that change starts with awareness, but it doesn’t end there. Every conversation, every purple scarf, every step forward builds momentum toward a safer, more compassionate Durham Region.
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, from first-time participants to long-time advocates. Your presence matters. Your voice matters. And your continued commitment helps keep this issue visible and urgent.
Our steps don’t stop here. Join us beginning November 25 for the 16 Days of Activism as we continue to raise awareness, inspire action, and stand united to end the epidemic of intimate partner violence.
