Kingston-based feminist lawyer and advocate Pamela Cross has been named a finalist for the 2025 Balsillie Prize for Public Policy with her book, And Sometimes They Kill You: Confronting the Epidemic of Intimate Partner Violence.  

Now in its fifth year, the Balsillie Prize recognizes nonfiction works that push forward public policy conversations in Canada.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the murders of Nathalie Warmerdam, Anastasia Kuzyk, and Carol Culleton, three women killed in one day by the same man in what became one of Ontario’s most horrific cases of intimate partner violence (IPV).

Luke’s Place Contributes to New Publication on Family Violence and Family Law  

We’re excited to announce the release of Understanding Family Violence in Family Court Proceedings: Providing Effective Responses for Victims, Children, and Perpetrators, a vital new resource published by the University of Toronto Press.  

This book addresses the growing recognition in Canadian legislation and case law that the family law legal system needs to do more to protect survivors of intimate partner violence as they navigate family court after separation.
